Deconstructing The Evil Of Rape

This morning, SC&A want to bring your attention to this post, written by Elle, of True Blue 4ever.

It is not an easy post to read- reality often isn't neat and tidy. put away and forgotten like a half hour TV show or a movie. Changing the channel or leaving a cinema seat isn't an option in dealing with reality. The hard experiences of a lifetime are what shape us- holding us up or heavily bearing down on us.

In a brief exchange, Elle told us that our post, Take Responsibility For Rape, in which we linked to a Norwegian professor who said that women were responsible for their rapes, struck a chord. That prompted her to ask us to read her post.

Someone shrewdely noted, on another site, that Islamists are telling us that women are responsible for their own rapes and that we are responsible for the terror they inflict upon us.

Those who inflict the hurt and pain are blameless. To our shame, there are those that agree with the Islamist line of thinking, that somehow, innocents are to blame for the evil that befalls them.

That is why we wanted to bring your attention to Elle's post- because reality has a way of deconstructing the convoluted justifications of the evil doers.

We do not wish to detract from Elle's post by extrapolating from it. Her experience is not diminshed by our wandering minds. Nevertheless, we suspect that Elle might forgive us, if our interpretations furthered our understanding of the evil that she endured- and the evil her experience highlights and illuminates.

We cannot tolerate the evil that Elle experienced. Innocents are in no way responsible for the evil that others wish to inflict, and attempt to place that blame on them is morally reprehensible.

The strongest impact Elle's post had on us was personal. The voice is real, anguished and strong. It is also a voice of determination- one that has a message for us all.
